Jillian Tamaki Book Covers

The lovely Jillian Tamaki is reproducing three covers from three classic novels in embroidery. After two months of work, she completed wrap-around covers for EmmaBlack Beauty, and The Secret Garden. How gorgeous is this?

Artist of the month, March 2011: LouisestArt

For the month of March, I chose an Artist whose work I admire very much. Louise van Terheijden is a talented Dutch artist with a very whimsical style, which is my ultimate favorite. Her work is inspiring and fun to look at. Here is a little interview with Louise;

What inspires you?

What inspires me most is people, their relationships, their dreams, desires, what makes them sad, happy,etc.
Nature has a big influence on my art, as well as Henri Matisse. His use of color inspires me!

What is your technique?
For example, in the series, "Violas." I studied trees and flowers and made collages of them and in the end they ended up in a digital piece of art (using programs such as Illustrator and Photoshop.)

How is your art different from other artists?
I can’t tell what is different in general from other artists, I like to think of my Art as unique in the Poetic way I express it.

Why do you do this particular kind of art (or use this particular technique)?
Being able to produce prints makes it possible to make affordable Art. People can enjoy my work at home.
I keep the editions limited so they are still unique.
