"A SMALL BEWILDERED GIRL OF TWELVE, WEARING A CLEAN GINGHAM DRESS AND TIGHT BRAIDS OF YELLOW HAIR DOWN HER BACK, CARRIES A BIRD CAGE IN ONE HAND AND HER BELONGINGS IN THE OTHER. SHE LOOKS IN AWE AT THE STATUE OF LIBERTY IN NEW YORK HARBOR. WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHER IMMIGRANTS SHE IS SOON ESCORTED TO ELLIS ISLAND"
